Abstract
Tendo como foco o lugar de encontro entre populações tradicionais e as forças culturais modernas e globais, o objetivo geral do estudo foi o de circunscrever, entre a população de quilombolas _ grupo tradicional, rural, que vive em determinadas condições sociais e ambientais _ as formas representacionais mnêmicas acerca da gravidez e do parto usualmente ligadas à história do grupo; identificar suas práticas de cuidado e tratamento e relacionar as representações deste passado compartilhado às mudanças ambientais e sociais que recentemente impactaram a sua região.
