Abstract

Introduction: Attitudinal barriers (AB) are obstacles stemming from third parties' attitudes that hinder individuals' full participation. The objective of this study was to explore AB experienced by adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Method: This was an exploratory descriptive study in which textual analysis was performed using the IRaMuTeQ software via Correspondence Factor Analysis and Descending Hierarchical Classification. The study included 41 adults with ASD who use Instagram. Results and Discussion: Six classes related to topics related to the AB experienced by the participants were found to be closer to one another, leading to the formation of specific groups. Family context and study and workspaces were related to the places where the adverse events occurred, leading to the social exclusion of adults with ASD. Suicidal ideation corresponded to the sequelae resulting from adverse events reported by participants. Conclusion: The adverse events experienced by adults with ASD cause them to react in heterogeneous ways and lead to mental illness.
