Abstract

The study aimed to verify the association between subjective memory perception, level of physical activity (PA) such as leisure, and psychological symptoms of workers at a university in the south of Rio Grande do Sul. This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 297 participants from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG). Memory perception was assessed through the question “How do you rate your memory today?”, categorized as excellent/very good, good/fair, or poor. Those who rated it as poor were considered to have the worst perception. Participants who reported practicing 150 minutes or more of PA/week were classified as active. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress were assessed using the DASS-21 scale, and participants were classified as having no symptoms or having symptoms. Odds ratios (OR) and confidence intervals (95%CI) were estimated using ordinal, crude, and adjusted logistic regression. The prevalence of poor memory perception was 6.4%. Being insufficiently active doubled the chance of poor perception. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress increased by 5.9; 3.3, and 2.6 times the chance of negative perception. It was concluded that having a poor perception of memory was associated with a lack of PA and the presence of psychological symptoms in the evaluated workers.
