Procedimentos eficazes no treino de toalete para indivíduos com autismo: Contribuições de Azrin e colaboradores

Abstract

O treino de toalete é um marco importante no desenvolvimento infantil e um desafio no ensino de indivíduos com necessidades especiais e autismo. Utilizar estratégias de ensino que tenham sua eficácia comprovada em pesquisas é fundamental para minimizar consequências decorrentes das dificuldades apresentadas por esses indivíduos. O objetivo do presente trabalho é apresentar uma revisão de estudos publicados por Azrin e colaboradores, apontando alguns desdobramentos desses estudos seminais e sua influência em estudos posteriores. Foram encontrados oito artigos. Os resultados indicaram dois procedimentos relevantes no ensino com essa população: o Treino Rápido de Toalete para a incontinência diurna e o Treino Cama Seca para a incontinência noturna. Muitos experimentos foram conduzidos com extensão e adaptação dos protocolos de Azrin e Foxx (1971) e Azrin, Sneed e Foxx (1973), os quais são os mais citados na área até hoje.
