Estrés, Ansiedad y Depresión y su Asociación con la Calidad de Vida, el Sexo y el Consumo de Psicofármacos en Estudiantes Universitarios: un Estudio Transversal

Introducción: La salud mental de los estudiantes universitarios es un problema de salud pública en todo el mundo y puede estar asociada a una peor calidad de vida. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la asociación entre las variables estrés, ansiedad y depresión y la calidad de vida, el género y el uso de psicofármacos en estudiantes universitarios. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal online con 131 estudiantes universitarios entre septiembre y diciembre de 2022. Se evaluaron los niveles de estrés, ansiedad y depresión mediante la Escala de Depresión, Ansiedad y Estrés (DASS-21), y la calidad de vida mediante la World Health Organisation Quality of Life-Bref (WHOQOL-Bref). Se realizaron análisis bivariados para determinar la existencia de una asociación entre las variables a un nivel de significación del 5%. Resultados: Se identificaron altos niveles de estrés (89,30%), ansiedad (83,10%) y depresión (80,90%) entre los estudiantes. Estas variables mostraron una asociación negativa y estadísticamente significativa con la calidad de vida. Hubo una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el uso de psicofármacos y las variables depresión, ansiedad y estrés. Sin embargo, no se identificó asociación significativa en relación al género. Discusión y conclusiones: Los síntomas de estrés, ansiedad y depresión predisponen a los universitarios a una menor calidad de vida y se asocian al uso de psicofármacos. El cribado y las intervenciones psicológicas sobre estos síntomas pueden contribuir a mejorar la percepción de la calidad de vida en esta población.
